What is a Tennis Player & Golfer? How is it tested and treated?

What is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow (medically known as "lateral epicondylitis") is a common condition characterized by pain on the outer part of the elbow. It mainly occurs from excessive use of the forearm muscles (Forearm Common Extensor) during backhand strokes in tennis, leading to strains or tears and subsequent swelling and pain. It affects the tendons on the outside of the elbow, causing pain and weakness. Although it is commonly referred to as "tennis elbow," it is not limited to tennis players; anyone who performs repetitive wrist and arm movements may suffer from it.

What is Golfer's Elbow?

Golfer's elbow (medically known as "medial epicondylitis") is caused by excessive force during forehand strokes, leading to strains or tears in the forearm muscles (Forearm Common Flexor), resulting in swelling and pain. The pain is primarily felt on the inner side of the elbow. Similar to tennis elbow, it is not exclusive to golfers; anyone who performs repetitive wrist and arm movements may experience this condition.

How to Test for Tennis Elbow or Golfer's Elbow?

Tennis Elbow Test

1. Extend your arm with the palm facing down.

2. Raise your wrist against resistance.

3. If you feel pain on the outside of the elbow, you likely have tennis elbow.

Golfer's Elbow Test

1. Extend your arm with the palm facing down.

2. Raise your wrist against resistance.

3. If you feel pain on the inside of the elbow, you likely have golfer's elbow.

How to Treat Golfer's Elbow / Tennis Elbow?

Choose our elbow brace designed by orthopedic doctors. The elastic fabric provides effective support for the back of the elbow, while the high-density sponge padding buffers the tension experienced by the elbow.

Prevention Methods for Tennis Elbow / Golfer's Elbow:

• Warm up: Perform adequate warm-up and stretching before exercise.

• Proper rest: Avoid overusing muscles and allow sufficient recovery time for the body.

• Use protective gear: Wear elbow braces for support and protection.

• Correct posture: Ensure proper posture to reduce the risk of injury.

• Avoid excessive force: Avoid overexertion during forehand or backhand strokes; consider wearing a brace when lifting heavy objects (as shown below).

If you are a golfer (forehand injury), the padding should be placed on the forehand side (inner side).

If you are a tennis player (backhand injury), the padding should be placed on the backhand side (outer side).
